Self-care during your monthly cycle

When I started getting back in tune with my divine feminine energy, I realized that self-care during your period is very important. I discovered that I had been doing everything wrong previously during my period. I also had no idea what the significance of the period was & why we actually have a period. Our society does not teach us this nor does it teach us that this time is very sacred & important for us women, it is a time of great release. It is a time to be fully in your feminine energy! But our society does not allow women to be fully immersed in their feminine energy & does not acknowledge the sacredness of the time of the month for us women!

Firstly, the monthly cycle is more than we think and were taught. It is a time of release and cleansing your physical, mental, emotional & spiritual body. It is releasing all the pent up energy from the month that had not been properly processed. Therefore, this pent up energy is getting released through your period every month. This is why you will find yourself with all sorts of symptoms during your period. It’s all getting released. We must therefore support this cleanse as much as possible. I found that the more crampy or painful the period the more clearing is happening. I suggest tracking this information every month to give you an idea of what sort of emotions you are dealing with. The PMS symptoms are actually indicators of your emotional blocks, so take note of any triggers or emotions during this time because these are being revealed! I suggest journalling to establish a pattern, once you become aware of your emotional blocks it is easier to embrace them & release them!

I discovered that your period should not be painful, it should be relatively easy going and the discomfort should be minimal. If you are experiencing heavier periods then there might be an underlining cause or lack of proper vitamins. Also, if you are experiencing more cramps & pain this is just an indicator of how much is being released, the more pain you experience the more is being released. If you are not releasing much & have done a lot of your emotional & mental healing then you won’t be experiencing a lot of discomfort. The body is releasing a lot at this time and the severity can vary depending on the current energetics of the planet too.

Sometimes we sync up to the moon cycles for our period. Hence, we may start our period on a New Moon or Full Moon, we may also be processing more on a New Moon or Full Moon or vice versa. It depends on you, every women is different. The moon cycles are also very important in terms of releasing old energy & bringing in new energy. Your period helps with this, as your period is a deep cleanse. The moon cycles are vital for us to be in flow, for us to release & renew. The energy of the moon cycles shifts us to our highest path.

The proper self-care routine during this cleanse is vital for optimal health and well-being. Here are some of my tips, which I have started doing during my monthly cycle:

  1. Tea

Drink herbal tea like Motherwort, Dandelion root or leaf, Hibiscus (one of my favourites) or Hawthorne Berry. Nettle tea is also good for replenishing the blood.

These herbal teas will support the cleanse during your period and help to balance your system.

  2. Food

Eat foods like porridge, stews or soups during this time. Easy foods for the stomach, because the stomach is sensitive at this time.

  3. Rest

It is usually a good idea to take this time off completely from any regular routine like going to work etc, I suggest just resting and napping if you feel like it. I feel that we have been doing it all wrong, women should be resting during their periods. It is not a time to be productive! We as women need this time off every month in my opinion & to be able to go rest, relax, go to a wellness spa! This is my vision for the future!

I also don’t believe it is a luxury to stay home and rest during your monthly cycle, it is your birthright! You are a beautiful divine being you deserve to rest & relax during this very scared time of the month!

  4. Water therapy

During this time, emotions might be amplified. Therefore, water is always a soothing friend during these times. Anytime you are in the emotional feminine energy, I suggest water therapy such as a long shower or bath. Maybe with rose petals (my favourite). Being by the lake etc. this is very good for processing emotions & releasing!

  5. Let it flow out

Do not use a tampon & let it flow out naturally. A tampon restrict the natural flow downwards, do not put something up there into your flower to block the flow. So a pad would be better during this time, in order to allow everything to flow downwards as it should.

  6. Avoid pain killers

Pain killers or synthetic medications are not the best for your health & should be avoided unless the pain is truly unbearable. I recommend omega-3 supplements for the pain, this soothes the aches & cramps.

  7. Heating pad

Using a heating pad on the cramps will help with the pain & is the best way to soothe your cramps instead of pain killers.

  8. Light exercise

Doing yoga or light body movements would be good to help with the releasing, but only if you feel like it!

remember the more releasing is happening the more painful the cramps
